Terri,
?
Sorry to hear about your oil leak issues. I also have an '88 RX-7 (GTU coupe?though, not a 'Vert) so I feel your pain about not knowing where to have it serviced that is local and convenient. I have heard great things about RP Performance of Summit Point, WV, but that's not?exactly local and convenient. If I ever need anything major though, I'd probably consider having my car?flatbedded out there.
?
Oil cooler lines are notorious for leaking on the second gen RX-7 so that's not at all?surprising.?My understanding was that the?mechanical oil metering pumps used in '86-88 were pretty robust though. A more likely source of oil leakage?would seem to me to be the?oil metering lines themselves which are clear plastic and are known?to become brittle with age. I'm sure Malloy?has checked them. I suppose a quarter-sized drip could be coming from the oil pan gasket, which would not be a big deal to replace. Let us all know how it works out.?

I have an '88 RX vert with 118K. Its my 4th RX and? has been such a great
car I have never felt the urge to get another.? For the first time in its
life I found spots of oil in the garage months ago.? I know that most older
cars do a bit of that but it got a little worse so I took it in. They found
several leaks and decided to treat them in order of severity. Replaced oil
cooler lines and oil metering pump. The cleaned the entire undercarriage
too. Told me to watch for more spots and bring it back in about 6 months and
let them inspect. Might have to change oil pan gasket and possibly rear
seal....argh!? Well....there are still quarter size spots under the car but
that's all. I just wondered what you guys think about this.? Obviously it
cost a lot for what I already had done but Malloy has always treated me
'gently and fairly'. I know dealer labor is high but with this type of
problem I really had no other place to take it. The car has never had any
problems...just the usual age/usage related replacements like
brakes/tires/clutch. I am retired now and barely put 2000 miles? year on it.

FYI....months ago I asked this forum about the 'burnt' smell coming from the
engine area after I drove the car. We thought it was gas and some of you
told me where to look? but now I know it was oil. The smell is GONE now.

Looking for comments/suggestions and thanks

Terri
