They didn't for a long time.  In the 80's and 90's they were  
derisively call "Dunflop" for their horrible floppy tires.  I had one  
set in the 80's and they were very bad.

They have improved since then.  In 1997 Sumitomo took over the brand  
name and in 1999 merged with Goodyear.  Dunlop became a brand of the  
merged pair.

Some attribute the excellent performance of the Direzza to the fact it  
is made in Japan by Sumitomo.  I have a set on my RX-8 and they are  
very good.
