[MSCW list] Leak into the car

After a rain, the carpet on the driver's side of my 2003 Miata is saturated with water. The top is only a year old and there is no sign that it is leaking. The shelf behind the seats is dry, so the drain holes back there must not be plugged up. The portion of carpet that runs up to the bottom of the door is not wet, so the water is apparently not coming in under the door. Weather stripping around the door looks okay, if not great, with no visible breaks. I've cleaned out all the leaves and debris I can reach from under the hood, especially around the windshield wiper arms. I'm stumped. Anyone have any idea how the water is getting in and what to do about it? Is this a common problem with Miatas of that age that sit outside? (Never had it with my 1991 Miata, which was 20 years old when I sold it.)
