After scouting today, a slight change to the route is active on the maps page. We found a section that was gravel (it was paved last time we went on it five years ago). So the new REVISED and FINAL map (including changes to the kml and gpx files) keeps us on paved roads, and they're all pretty good although there are a couple of sections of bumps or cracked surfaces, but no potholes. I'll slow us down for those sections but we shoiuld be able to maintain a good pace, so as long as traffic isn't too bad. And the best part is that Swirlies Ice Cream in Haymarket is open! You wait in line, maintaining a distance, collect your ice cream, and then you can head to the car OR use some of their available outdoor seating (they've closed off alternate sections so there's good spacing). It felt almost like a "normal" day today.

June 6th - MSCW Scenic Drive #2 - Northern Virginia
Join the club for a cruise on some Northern Virginia backroads, out in "Horse Country" where the wallets are big and the estates are bigger. We'll begin the cruise at Dulles South Ct (a small shopping center just off of US 50 West and Pleasant Valley Road at the Fairfax/Loudon County Line). It's between the Fairfax County Pleasant Valley Road and the Loudon County Pleasant Valley Road. We'll head west on US 50, make a right at the third rotary onto US 15 North, then a left onto Lime Kiln Road (which was paved in the last year). We'll then wander through the farmlands before turning southerly towards Upperville, and we'll pick up US 50 again for a mile or so befoer heading southeast on Rectortown road to Marshall. We'll cross over I-66 on US 17 before making a right turn onto Carters Run Road, and we'll follow that down and then head east, crossing back over US 17 and turning Northeast to pick up VA 55 Eastbound, and ending up in Haymarket (where, if we're lucky, the ice cream
store may be serving). From Haymarket, it's a short drive up US 15 to catch I66, or you can stay East on VA 55 to US 29 if you want a more sedate trip home.
