This is our annual "dress warmly to drive topless" event. As long as the weather is good (no precipitation, and temps above 50F), we'll make this drive with the tops down.
We'll assemble on Sunday, November 12th, at the Stone Springs Hospital (off US50 on the East Side parking lot off Medical Drive) at 10:15 AM. We'll leave at 10:45 AM and head East on US50 and get on Snickersville Turnpike in Aldie, and proceed all the way down Snickersville to the end, where we'll head West on VA7 and then head South on Blueridge Mountain Road. Then we'll join US50/US17 and head West a short distance and make a left on to Howellsville Road for a drive along the Shenandoah River. We'll end up having lunch around 12:30 PM at a restaurant in Front Royal. I'm intending to go to Las Caverns - a Peruvian restaurant, but I'll scout it first and we will have the PaveMint Smokehouse (which had the best BBQ sandwich Ian's ever tasted) as a backup if the scouting is a flop. Be sure to wear layers - you'll likely want a warm hat and gloves as well. After the drive and lunch folks are free to find their own way home.
Logistics:
Assembly - I'll be at Stone Springs Hospital Center on US50 at 10:15 AM. There's a gas station on US50 just east of the hospital.
Departure - We'll leave the Hospital at 10:45 AM
Time/Distance - About fity-four miles to the restaurant, and one hour and forty-five minutes.
Food - Las Caverns (https://cavernspollo.com/). Peruvian food with a good rating on Yelp. PaveMint Taphouse as a backup.
Car limits - this drive is limited to a total of 20 cars.
Rain Date - If weather is bad, we will try again on November 18th.
Technology- I will bring nine extra Midland GMRS radios. If you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 for the privacy code. In Glympse, we'll use the !mscw_cruise tag to keep track of each other.
