A common tale heard when buying a used car is "this car was only used for fun drives in the country." I heard that line when I bought my 1991 miata in 2009. For our second scenic drive this year, we'll take our cars out on April 13th for a drive in the country, where I can assure you there WILL be animals to talk to, and lots of space, and we may even see an airplane flying.
Our drive will start at the Wal-Mart in Haymarket VA (near the intersection of US15 and VA55), and then will head west on VA55, make a left onto Blantyre Road (CR 628) and then a left onto VA605 to CR672 back to CR628 and back to VA55. We'll get back on VA55 west and head through The Plains (slowing down for the town itself), and on into Marshall. After we pass the Fauquier Livestock Exchange and cross over the railroad tracks we'll make a left onto Old Stockyard and take that to the nearby shopping center, where we'll have lunch at the Old Salem Cafe. After lunch, we'll head north on VA710 (Rectortown Rd) and make a right onto VA623 to rejoin US50 eastbound towards Middleburg. When we reach Middleburg, folks can head home, OR follow me on a more spirited drive on VA626 down toward The Plains taking Hopewell road over to US15.
While there will be some fun curves on this trip, we will NOT be speed demons - this is about enjoying the "drive in the country", rather than hooning (until we get to the "spirited section" from Middleburg heading south. Our previous experiment with subgroups showed they were useful, so we will probably have four groups for this drive as well. You'll have the option of signing up for the "spirited section", where there will be no subgroups.
Logistics:
Assembly - We'll assemble at the Haymarket WalMart at 11 AM on the 13th. Plenty of places for gas and restrooms in Haymarket.
Departure - We will depart around 11:25 AM.
Food - Lunch will be at the Old Salem Cafe (https://oldsalemcafe.com/) It's small but should be able to handle us all, and there should be parking in the shopping center lot.
Weather - This drive is planned for Saturday, April 13. If the weather looks bad we may push it to the 20th.
Technology- I will bring nine extra Midland GMRS radios. If you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 for the privacy code. In Glympse, we'll use the !mscw_cruise tag to keep track of each other. I'll have GPS for the subgroup leaders, and there may be an extra as well.
RSVP via signup genius at https://bit.ly/mscw2024-sc-2. Don't use Facebook to indicate you're going.

Drive safely and HAVE FUN,
