It's been a while since we've visited Maryland on the east side of the Potomac River. Years ago while scouting roads I hit a large bird with my NA - which fortunately did NOT break my windshield. This year we're taking 3 1/2 hours to make a loop through the area, with a stop in the middle for freshly made doughnuts (a rarity nowadays) and coffee/tea.
Our drive will start at the Aldi parking lot in Oxon Hill, MD at 8:30 AM. We'll make our way over to MD210 and take that to Potomac Heights and Indian Head, where we'll get on MD224 along the Potomac before heading northeast on MD425 and MD 6 to La Plata, where we'll stop for Doughnuts/Drinks at B. Doughnut (https://www.bdoughnut-laplata.com/) around 10 AM. Heck, maybe we'll get a chance to make friends with some law enforcement types there (always a good idea when you're driving a car that begs to be pulled over). From there, we'll make our way back to the Aldi, mainly via MD5.
We'll likely want to have subgroups for this drive as there is the potential for a large group to be split at intersections. If you're interested in leading a subgroup for this drive, send me an email message.
Logistics:
Assembly - We'll begine to assemble at the Oxon Hill Aldi (6301 Livingston Rd, Oxon MD 20745) at 8 AM on 5/25/2024. Please have had breakfast, and have at least a half-tank of gas and an empty bladder.
Departure - We'll depart at 8:30 AM
Time/Distance - approximately 95 miles, with 3.5 hours programmed including an hour at B. Doughnut, so we should be back to the start by noon.
Food - Doughnuts and Drinks at B. Doughnut in La Plata
Car limits - 25
Weather - If the weather is bad, we will try again on 5/26
Technology- I will bring nine extra Midland GMRS radios. If you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 for the privacy code. In Glympse, we'll use the !mscw_cruise tag to keep track of each other. I'll have GPS for the subgroup leaders, and there may be an extra as well.
RSVP via signup genius at https://bit.ly/mscw2024-sc-3. Don't use Facebook to indicate you're going.
