You should also see a black wire (or a plain wire braid) connected to the NEGATIVE terminal on the battery, and connected directly to the metal of the body/frame. The positive battery wire should be insulated except for the connector that goes on the battery.

Monty,
The positive post is the larger diameter one. It should have a "+" molded into the top of the battery case also. The terminal block on this side is much larger as well. If you are unsure and intend to jump it from a good battery please get some help as connecting jumper cables backwards is extremely dangerous.
