Ron has this exactly right. You get a new compressor and drier and new seals but when done right you get cold AC that can be maintained.

Hi Patricia,
Many owners of 1990-1993 Miatas convert their cars to the compressor and refrigerant used in the 1994+. This compressor was used by the Miatas all the way through 2005, and you should be able to find one on Ebay. You will need to perform a 134a conversion, and if your shop doesn’t know what that means, find another shop.
