Are the OEM Showas still available? Heck, back in the day, they were
generally regarded to be toast at 30k miles.
My rear shocks were done at 13k miles on my first ‘97.
Good replacements are available from Koni (Str.t or the new Special
Active), KYB, and others. New softer bumpstops would also be a good idea.
Check everything for corrosion first though…
