The announcers on radio and TV would say that the event (whatever it was) was the biggest in the tri-state area. Then, when I became a parent, I'd watch TV with my child, and got addicted to Phineas and Ferb, and the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz, who would often rant about the chaos he'd create in the tri-State AREA!!!! (If you've never seen Phineas and Ferb, you owe it to yourself. Trust me.) But for us in MSCW, we have our own tri-state area, where Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia come together and the Shenandoah River flows into the Potomac River. So in early June, we'll take a drive that will circle around the Harper's Ferry area, with a lunch at the Blue Moon in Sheperdstown WV. The Drive will start at the parking lot of Target in Leesburg, off Edwards Ferry Road near US15. We'll head west on Edwards Ferry to join VA7 to VA9, and we'll head north on Mountain Road, and wind our way on that very fun road to Lovettsville where we'll join the Berlin Turnpike across the Potomac in to Brunswick, MD, then head northwest to join US340, and we'll get on Keep Tryst road to Sandy Hook road right long the Potomac and the C&O Canal, and when we turn away from the river we'll stay on back roads to join MD34, which will take us across the Potomac (again) into WV, and we'll find our way to a public parking lot that's catty-corner to the Blue Moon Cafe (https://bluemooncafeshepherdstown.com/). We've eaten there before, and we tend to swap between the Blue Moon and the Bavarian Inn for good food. When we're done with lunch, we'll head south on WV240 to US340, which will take us to Harper's Ferry, across the Shenandoah, and then we'll head south on Harper's Ferry Road (VA671), another fun road to drive briskly, past the 868 Estate Vineyards, and back to VA9 where we'll go until we reach a Shell station right before we merge with VA7 again. At that point the drive is over, I'll collect radios/GPS units, and folks can find their way home. Logistics: Assembly - We can start gathering at the Leesburg Target parking lot at 9:30 AM on Saturday, June 7th. Departure - We'll depart the Target at 10 AM Time/Distance - With almost two hours for lunch and looking at downtown Shepherdstown, the Drive will run about four and a half hours. Total distance will be less than 100 miles, and driving time will be two hours and forty minutes. Fees - No fees for this drive Food - Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown, WV. We should get there in time for a noon meal. Car limits - 20 cars for the drive Weather - If the weather is poor on Saturday, we may try on Sunday Technology- I will bring nine extra Midland GMRS radios. If you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 (118.8 Hz) for the privacy code. In Glympse, we'll use the !mscw_cruise tag to keep track of each other. RSVP via signup genius at https://rebrand.ly/mscw2025-sc-04. Don't use Facebook to indicate you're going. Message-ID: In the last year, there've been a few occasions where someone has signed up for a drive and just never shown up at all. This has always been a first-timer, rather than someone who's been on group activities with us before. I understand that things happen, sometime at the last minute, but I'm gonna insist on good manners - have the courtesy to send me an email, send me a text, make a phone call, or cancel your signup. That keeps folks from waiting at the start of a drive, and it may (if the cancellation is early enough) let someone else sign up and come along on the drive. I'm going to start keeping a 'naughty list' of no-show/no-contacts, and anyone who does it twice in a season is not going to be permitted to sign up for the rest of the season. Thank you for paying attention, and NOT getting on the naughty list.
