[MSCW list] MSCW 2025 Destination Drive #7 – Knoebel's Amusement Park

Our seventh "destination" drive will be an ALL-DAY trip, where we'll head up from the Harry Grove Stadium/Nymeo Field in Frederick MD at 8:30 AM on US15 to get us to Knoebel's Amusement Park by 11:30 as the rides start at noon.

Knoebel's is 99 years old, and is the largest park in the US that still operates on the 'classic' model of free admission and charging for rides/games by the ticket, though there is an option for an 'all you can ride' pass.   They also offer active duty/reserve and retired/veterans a complimentary book of tickets once per season.  They have wooden roller coasters, rides where you get wet, and miniature golf.  It will be a great way to have fun with your family.  And while we'll take a scenic route along the Susquehanna River, you don't HAVE to come in your Mazda Sports Car if you need more room for people... bring your Mazda's Fat German/American/Swedish/English/Italian/Whatever cousin on the trip.   There is good food (in sit-down restaurants) at the park itself.   Folks can stay as long as they like (the park closes at 9 PM) and it's only a half-hour drive to I-81 for the drive home.

Logistics:
Assembly - On Saturday, July 12th, we'll start assembling at 8:00 AM at the Harry Grove Stadium / Nymeo field in Frederick MD (21 Stadium Drive, Frederick, MD, 21703).  There is a Sheetz nearby (6050 Buckeystown Pike, exit 54 off I-70 Eastbound) where you can fill your tank and empty your bladder.
Departure - We'll leave the stadium at 8:30 AM.
Time/Distance - 150 miles / 3 hours from Frederick to Knoebels, with one pit stop along the way.
Fees - You can buy tickets/passes online at https://knoebels.com, or at the park itself.
Food - Food (all sorts) is available at the Park.
Car limits – Not putting any limits on this trip - nor will we snicker (much) if you bring a minivan..
Rain Date - If the weather is poor on the 12th, the 13th is a backup.
Technology -  I will bring thirteen extra Midland GMRS radios.  If you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 (118.8 Hz) for the privacy code.  In Glympse, we'll use the !mscw_cruise tag to keep track of each other.
