Just got word of this event today, so it's short notice.
Most of us know about Moss Motorsports - They support the classic sports cars - Jaguars, MGs, Triumphs, and Miatas. In the past they sponsored scavenger hunts where they'd give you a list of categories (street names A-Z, iconic cars like the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile, others) and you'd have to drive there, get a picture of you and your Moss-supported car in front of the target, as well as a Moss catalog cover, all in the picture. You'd earn points for each picture, and the grand winner would get a Moss gift certificate worth hundreds of dollars, and other prizes for top finishers. Anyone who turned in at least 25 points got a hat! They also had gatherings of cars in their Petersburg VA location (Moss Motorfest) in 2017 and 2019, but the pandemic put an end to that practice. Moss HAS gone to Miatas at the Gap, and MiataCon, and the Miata Reunion, so they haven't forgotten us.
Moss recently announced a Cars and Coffee event on September 21 at their Petersburg site. It's running from 8 AM - 1 PM, and I'm going to go, and will happily lead a group on a scenic route so that we arrive around 10:30 AM. The drive will start at the Falmouth Park and Ride near Fredericksburg, and will head down via VA208, across Lake Anna, and join US522 to Amelia, where we'll get on VA38/602/36 into Petersburg. We will take a bladder break after an hour or so as we cross under I-64. Once we're there, folks can get home any way they choose (I-95 is nearby or you can head east to I-295 and circumnavigate around Richmond.
Logistics:
Assembly - On Sunday, September 21st, we'll start assembling at 7:00 AM at the Falmouth Park and Ride (just west of I-95 (exit 133b) on US17. There is gas and bathrooms near the lot. If you've got a motoring challenge cap or a motorfest t-shirt, by all means wear it!
Departure - We'll leave the lot at 7:15 AM.
Time/Distance - 131 miles / 3 hours to Moss in Petersburg.
Fees - None
Food - They'll have coffee, of course. There are plenty of places nearby, and I'll send folk who've signed up a list.
Car limits - 16 cars, though I WILL expand if it gets full.
Rain Date - If the weather is going to be awful, I'll cancel the drive.
Technology - I will bring thirteen extra Midland GMRS radios. If you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 (118.8 Hz) for the privacy code. In Glympse, we'll use the !mscw_cruise tag to keep track of each other. I'll collect the radios at the picnic - just be sure to return them before you head home.
RSVP via signup genius at https://rebrand.ly/mscw2025-dd-09. Don't use Facebook to indicate you're going. The signup will be closed on 9/17.
