[MSCW list] MSCW 2026 Scenic Drive #3 - Duvall Memorial A&E (Alcohol and Exercise)- May 9, 2026

Robert Duvall was a class act, both as an actor and human being.  Whether he was 'not a wartime consigliere' in the Godfather movies, or the team lead/coach/father figure for Cole Trickle in Days of Thunder, or just the guy with the lovely (younger) wife at a nearby table at Patty-O's cafe, he was a famous guy who didn't take the fame seriously. We lost him in February, and since he lived in our region, we're going to pay our respects (without any kneeling or ring-kissing) by driving down to Washington VA and having a meal, and visit a winery and brewery there, and those of us who wish can play a round of disc golf as we wander around the brewery and winery properties.  And if any of us hit the lottery between now and then, we might buy the winery property and turn it into a sports car bed and breakfast (Thanks to our own Julia Santarcangelo for this great idea).

Our drive will start at the Bull Run Battlefield Stone Bridge parking lot off US29 next to the Winery.  We'll then take US29 to VA55 to Marshall, then get on Crest Hill Road to Flint Hill where we'll stop for lunch at the Dark Horse Irish Pub.  From there we'll get on Fodderstack Road into Washington, passing Patty-O's, and we'll join US211 to head to Christmas Tree Rd and Skyline Brewing.  There should be parking there, and folks can either walk or take the short drive to the Little Washington Winery where there is more wine than at the brewery AND they have chocolate to go with the wine.   The 18-hole Disc Golf course is spread across both properties, and we certainly don't have to play all 18, but it will be nice to walk around.  I think there are also trail(s) for the mountain on the property.

The drive 'ends' at the brewery/winery, but I'll be heading back home on US211 to US29, and I may stop at Moo Thru on the way back, if folks want to follow.

One note - the road(s) off US211 to the brewery and winery are gravel, but we won't be going fast or far, and they should be in decent shape - there's a Porsche club that visits every year, so I expect the roads are groomed every spring and during the year.

Logistics:
Assembly - We'll begin to assemble at the Bull Run Stone Bridge lot at 10:15 AM on May 9th.
Departure - We'll depart the lot at 10:40 AM.
Time/Distance - Distance down will be 50 miles and the driving time will be about 80 minutes. With time for lunch enroute, we should get to the brewery around 1:15 PM.

Fees - No fees on this drive, but bring money for the beer and wine!
Car limits – 20 cars for this route.  We will likely have subgroups.
Weather - If the weather is bad on the 9th, we'll try again on May 10th.
Technology -  I will bring eleven extra Midland GMRS radios.  IIf you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 (118.8 Hz) for the privacy code.  In Glympse, we'll use the !mscw_cruise tag to keep track of each other.
