Our group lost Jodie Routt in December 2025. She (and husband Mark) participated in many of our drive activities. She loved her red ND and spending time on the road with us. In fact, her obituary mentioned "...cruising in her beloved Miata, connecting with fellow Miata enthusiasts...".
There will be a celebration of life party at the Carter Mountain Orchard (Charlottesville) on April 26 from 3-5 PM.
I think it’s appropriate that a large number of Miatas show up for this, so I will lead a group down from the NOVA Manassas parking lot. This is more than a drive, it’s a way to honor a dear friend who meant so much to so many of us.
Let’s come together, share the road, share the memories, and celebrate a life that brought joy, kindness, and connection to our community. If you knew Jodie, loved her, or simply want to pay tribute to a fellow Miata lover, you are welcome to join. From the parking lot, we'll take US29 to Pratt, then VA230, VA810, and VA614/VA676 to the Charlottesville area and the Orchard, arriving around 2:45 PM.
Logistics:
*
Assembly - We'll begin to assemble at the NOVA Manassas parking lot (Campus Drive off Sudley Road, I-66 exit 47B) at 11:15 AM.
*
Departure - We'll depart the lot at 11:45 AM.
*
Time/Distance - Expect the time to be around three hours of driving, and about 120 miles. We'll have a bladder break enroute and we should arrive at 2:45 PM.
*
Food - Have a late breakfast or early lunch. Mark will bring some food and drinks and the orchard sells 'the best apple cider donuts'. There are of course lots of places to eat in Charlottesville afterwards.
*
Car limits – No limit on cars for this drive, and we will have some subgroup leaders with GPS so nobody gets lost on the way.
*
Weather - This will be a rain-or-shine event.
*
Technology - I will bring eleven extra Midland GMRS radios. If you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 (118.8 Hz) for the privacy code. In Glympse, we'll use the !mscw_cruise tag to keep track of each other.
RSVP via signup genius at https://rebrand.ly/mscw2026-dd-04. Don't use Facebook to indicate you're going.
