From tim.metzinger at outlook.com Sun Apr 5 20:24:08 2026 From: tim.metzinger at outlook.com (Timothy Metzinger) Date: Sun, 5 Apr 2026 18:24:08 +0000 Subject: [MSCW list] April Drives reminder - still room! Message-ID: I'm beginning to believe in Spring, now that the cherry blossoms are out. With temps supposed to be staying above 40 after Wednesday, it's gonna be time to put on the summer tires. There is still room for our April Drives: This Saturday (4/11) we've got a drive to Berryville to see the Blue Ridge Hunt horse races. https://rebrand.ly/mscw2026-dd-01 On Friday the 17th there's an overnight to Durham, NC to watch the Durham Bulls play. https://rebrand.ly/mscw2026-dd-02 On Saturday the 25th, we'll take a ride along the Potomac river for Barbeque in Urban. https://rebrand.ly/mscw2026-sc-02 Sunday the 26th will be a memorial ride for Jody Routt down to Charlottesvile. I'll be posting June drives this week. The complete list of drive is at https://www.midatlanticscenicdrives.com/mscwdrives.html.. You should bookmark it! After our adventure we'll head north to Hancock MD and visit the Blue Goose Market and Bakery (they have great pies for sale here) and end at Jimmy Joy's Log Cabin Inn restaurant for a late lunch - seafood is a specialty (though they DO offer a reuben)! From there, I-70 is available for folks to head home. The tunnel is dark and damp, so please bring flashlights and a pair of shoes/sneakers that can handle the moisture - you don't need hiking boots but sandals are not a good idea. More info is available at https://www.nps.gov/choh/planyourvisit/paw-paw-tunnel.htm. The campground near the tunnel does have porta-potties as well. Because we'll be about five hours from the drive start until lunch, you'll want to bring a snack and water. We will have a stop at a Sheetz in Winchester along the way. Logistics: Assembly - We'll begin to assemble at the Target lot (off Edwards Ferry Rd) at 8:00 AM. Departure - We'll depart the lot at 8:30 AM. Time/Distance - Distance will be 130 miles and the driving time will be about 3 hours and 15 minutes, though we'll take about 5 1/2 hours total with the tunnel hike. Food - Jimmy Joy's Log Cabin Inn - https://jimmyjoyslogcabin.com/. Fees - No fees on this drive. Car limits ? 20 cars for this route. We will likely have subgroups. Weather - If the weather is poor on the 7th, we'll try again on the 28th. Technology - I will bring eleven extra Midland GMRS radios. IIf you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 (118.8 Hz) for the privacy code. In Glympse, we'll use the !mscw_cruise tag to keep track of each other. RSVP via signup genius at https://rebrand.ly/mscw2026-sc-04. Don't use Facebook to indicate you're going. We'll start at the Davidsonville Park and Ride (off US50/US301), cross the Bay Bridge, and then follow US50 East until we get to Ocean City. The Airshow this year has lots of attractions in the sky - The Thunderbirds will be headlining. There's information (from the commercial sponsor) at https://air.show/oceancity/. We will plan on getting there early enough to get parking (hopefully free) and stake our claim on the free sections of the beach near the boardwalk. With enough people we can manage to have a few folks watch our stuff while others go swimming or visit the Boardwalk. Sunscreen is a MUST, but in addition, any kind of sunshade, be it an umbrella or some sort of beach canopy is strongly recommended since we will be out on the beach all day. The sun can be your best friend and your worst enemy. Ian has three Sport-Brellas and would be happy to bring the extras for people to use. Two people can fit comfortably under each umbrella, which are designed to be erected upright or positioned on their side (SPF 50). He'll also bring the canopy in case (knocking on wood) it rains like last year. I'm not assigning a specific date to this event - they'll have the airshow on Saturday AND Sunday (13th and 14th) and we'll let the weather drive which day we go. Probably we'll make the weather call on Wednesday or Thursday (10th or 11th). Logistics: Assembly - On our departure day (Sat or Sun), we'll start assembling at the Davidsonville Park and Ride at 4:00 AM. Departure - We'll leave the lot at 4:30 AM. which should get us to OC by 7 AM, where we can hopefully find free parking on Baltimore Ave between 15th and 25th sreets. The "reserved" beach spots open at 9 or 10 AM, but we should be able to stake our claim on beach space when we arrive - a good reason to get up early. Time/Distance - The drive is about 130 miles and should take 150 minutes. Please have plenty of gas and an empty bladder as our priority is to get there and claim our beach space early. Food - Plenty of food at the Boardwalk on the Beach. Please bring your owh chair/towels/coolers. Fees - No cost for the airshow or beach access, and if we're lucky we can find free parking on the street. Municipal parking is $3 per hour, and the airshow generally runs from noon-3PM, so I'd recommend budgeting $30 for parking which will let you stay until 4 PM. Car limits ? The limit will be set at 20 (20) cars. Since the point is to get to the beach, rather than scenery, I won't split us up into subgroups, but we'll have radios and phones if anyone gets lost. Rain Date - We'll pick our date (Saturday or Sunday) based on the weather forecast, probably on the Wednesday or Thursday before. Please keep your schedule open for both days if you can. Technology - I will bring eleven extra Midland GMRS radios. If you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 (118.8 Hz) for the privacy code. Once again we'll meet the Pennsylvania Central Miata group (pacemiataclub.org) at the Sheetz in Hummelville, PA, so we can all go to the Bill Smith Cruise-in at the AACA museum together. Everyone needs to be able to get to the museum on their own (the route is pretty simple) in case the group gets split up somewhere on US15. If you choose not to drive up with the group, you can meets us at the museum (161 Museum Dr., Hershey, PA 17033) - the combined group from PACE and MSCW should get there around 9:45 AM. Parking at the museum for the cruise-in is on the grass, and we hope to be in one big group of Miatas. Regardless of how you get there, PLEASE register with the museum at https://www.aacamuseum.org/event/cruise-in/ so they can keep track of who?s coming. Be sure to indicate in your sign up that you're part of Mazda Sports Cars of Washington DC, as we get credit for how many folks show up. Since there is a "show" element to the cruise-in, a spruce-up is appreciated. You may want to bring a blanket or chairs to sit by your car on the grass where we are parked. Don't forget sunscreen! In the afternoon, when everyone has had enough fun at the museum, folks are free to head home. I will lead interested folks over to the Troegs Brewery for food and (a little) beer, and then it's back down US15 towards home. Logistics: Assembly - On Saturday, June 2th, the group will start assembling at 6:50 AM at the Harry Grove Stadium / Nymeo field in Frederick MD (21 Stadium Drive, Frederick, MD, 21703). There is a Sheetz nearby (6050 Buckeystown Pike, exit 54 off I-70 Eastbound) where you can fill your tank and empty your bladder. Departure - We'll leave the stadium at 7:20 AM. Time/Distance - 90 miles from Frederick to AACA museum. The rally point to meet up with PACE will be at the Hummelstown Sheetz - we should get there around 9 AM and folks will have time to pee or get a drink before the two groups leave together around 9:30 for the 10 minute drive to the museum. Fees - The Cruise-In is free, and should come with one person's admission to the museum. Additional people can visit the museum for $10 each. Food - Food should be available at the Cruise-in (or save your appetite for Troegs after). Last year car clubs were fed, and that may happen this year as well Car limits ? No limits on this trip, but please be familiar with the route by looking at the map, and possibly putting the AACA museum in to your GPS (161 Museum Dr., Hershey, PA 17033). Please use the signup genius just so we can keep track of the number of folks coming. I'll add more slots if needed. Rain Date - This is a RAIN OR SHINE EVENT (unless the museum cancels it) Technology - I will bring nine extra Midland GMRS radios. If you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 (118.8 Hz) for the privacy code.
