[MSCW list] MSCW 2026 Scenic Drive #5 - 4th of July with Bald Eagles

This drive is ON Saturday, the 4th of July, and will start in Linden, VA (right near the Apple House) and take us into WV via VA55 and US48, arriving in Moorefield WV at 10:30 where the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad is offering a 1 hour train ride at 11 AM to see Bald Eagles - sort of a fitting thing on our nation's 250th Birthday.  When we return, we'll head north on US220 to Romney, WV, and head homeward via US50, circling around Winchester and reaching Middleburg and heading south along a very fun stretch (VA626) to The Plains where we will pick up VA55 to head east.  The drive will end at the Big Axe Barn around 3 PM, where folks can drink beer, enjoy some food, and throw axes.   Of course, since it IS a holiday, folks can leave the drive at any point to get home for appointments like seeing fireworks.

Logistics:
Assembly - We'll begin to assemble at the Linden Park and Ride (I-66 exit 13 near the gas station on VA55) around 8:30.  If you want to get donuts or breakfast at the Apple House, get there earlier.
Departure - We'll head west on VA55 at 9 AM.
Time/Distance - Distance will be 185 miles and the driving time will be about 4 hours, though with the train ride we'll be 6 hours.
Food - donuts and such at the Apple House at the beginning, and food at the Farm Brewery at the end of the drive.  There are concessions on the train, and everyone gets an ice pop as well.
Fees - Train ride is $14 per adult.  For folks that sign up by June 4, I will purchase the tickets so we're all in one group.  If  you sign up AFTER June 4, you need to buy your own ticket at https://potomaceagle.com and select the American Bald Eagle Special at 11:00 AM on July 4.
Car limits – 24 cars for this route, though more may be added.  We will have subgroups, organized (as best as I can) by the speed category (RoadRunner/Speedy/Bugs) you select.
Weather - No Rain Date for this event
Technology - I will bring fourteen extra Midland GMRS radios.  If you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 (118.8 Hz) for the privacy code.  In Glympse, we'll use the !mscw_cruise tag to keep track of each other.
