We've gone to Knoebel's several times since the Pandemic, and it's their 100th anniversary this year. They were also rated the most beloved amusement park in the USA - https://nypost.com/2026/07/01/us-news/beloved-amusement-park-with-no-gate-fee-takes-top-spot-ahead-of-theme-park-giants/ . We've always had a great time there - you drive into a huge (free) parking area, walk or catch a tram to the entrance gates, and just walk in. You buy tickets, and pay with your tickets for the rides you wish to go, or to play mini golf, or whatever else. There are good restaurant(s) in the park, along with the normal carnival-style junk food. They have wooden and modern roller coasters, and (to quote El Guapo), a plethora of things to do. This year I'm going to bring a change of clothes so that I can ride and watch the Skloosh, a flume ride that soaks the riders and the folks on a bridge watching. This place is suitable for all ages, so you can bring your family vehicle and a crowd.
Our route will take us north from Frederick along US15, and we'll move to US11 when we reach the Susquehanna river. We'll cross over the River near Sunbury PA and take PA61 eastbound to the park. We will stop at the 90-minute mark for a bio-break.
Logistics:
Assembly - On each day (8/1 and 8/16), the group will start assembling at 8:00 AM at the Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick MD. Fuel is available at a Sheetz near the stadium.
Departure - we'll head north at 8:30 AM.
Time/Distance - One-way distance to Knoebel's is 146 miles - our route will take us along the Susquehannah, and we'll arrive at parking around 1145 and the park will open at noon.
Food - Food is available at the park. We've been to the Alamo restaurant in the past and enjoyed it.
Fees - Pay for your tickets at the park. Rides tend to be between $3 and $6. Mini-golf is a separate thing at $6.
Car limits – I'm going to set 24 cars as the initial limit and will add more.
Weather - Since I'll be leading on two days, if the weather is bad on the 1st, you can come on the 16th if you're available
Technology - I will bring fourteen extra Midland GMRS radios. If you want to bring your own GMRS radio, we will be using Channel 30 on Midland Radios, or 462.7000 MHz frequency and CTCSS 17 (118.8 Hz) for the privacy code. In Glympse, we'll use the !mscw_cruise tag to keep track of each other.
RSVP via signup genius at https://rebrand.ly/mscw2026-dd-10. You can sign up for one day or the other, OR BOTH. Don't use Facebook to indicate you're going.
